چکیده
Recent interest in Arctic exploration has brought new challenges concerning the mechanical behavior of lightweight materials for offshore structures. Exposure to seawater and cold temperatures are known degrade properties several materials, thus, compromising safety personnel This study aims investigate low-velocity impact woven carbon/vinyl ester sandwich composites with Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) foam core at low marine applications. The tests were performed a drop tower system an in-built environmental chamber. متن کاملExperimental Study on the Low-velocity Impact Behavior of Foam-core Sandwich Panels
This paper presents the results of an experimental study on the low-velocity impact behavior of foam-core sandwich panels. Panels with PUR foam core and plain weave carbon fabric laminated face-sheets were subjected to low-velocity impact with hemispherical steel impactors of di erent diameters at various energy levels. Digital image correlation (DIC) technique (ARAMIS software) was used to mea...
متن کاملPerformance of metallic honeycomb-core sandwich beams under shock loading
Stainless steel square honeycomb core sandwich and solid monolithic beams have been subjected to high-pressure, short-duration impulses using a shock simulation technique involving high-speed impact of Al foam projectiles. The experiments have been designed to achieve two objectives: (i) to demonstrate the benefits of sandwich construction, and (ii) to assess the fidelity of dynamic finite elem...
متن کاملLocal Buckling of Web-Core and Foam-Core Sandwich Panels
Sandwich construction is widely accepted as a method of construction especially in the aircraft industry. It is a type of stressed skin construction formed by bonding two thin faces to a thick core, the faces resist all of the applied edge loads and provide all or nearly all of the required rigidities, the core spaces the faces to increase cross section moment of inertia about common neutral ax...
متن کاملNon-linear Dynamic Analysis of Steel Hollow I-core Sandwich Panel under Air Blast Loading
In this paper, the non-linear dynamic response of novel steel sandwich panel with hollow I-core subjected to blast loading was studied. Special emphasis is placed on the evaluation of midpoint displacements and energy dissipation of the models. Several parameters such as boundary conditions, strain rate, mesh dependency and asymmetrical loading are considered in this study. The material and geo...
